The sky is falling! It's the end of the (canon) world! What does that mean to YOU?

I find myself curious as to where fandom is going after DH, so if anyone wants to participate in this poll, please feel free. :D WARNING: I will attempt to screen spoilers out of the comments as much as possible, but I can't promise someone might see something they don't want to see. PLEASE try not to say spoilery things just for politeness sake (saying "I'll leave fandom if Snape dies" isn't spoilery, IMO, but if you KNOW something and mention it, that would be, so please be nice!)

XD I don't write, but I rp. So I'll keep rping (if I ever FIND another good HP rper again u_u;) which pairing I like. I just know it is going to be considered AU.

I'm actually afraid for DH. I feel like if Snape died I'm going to cry XD; especially since I have two running bets...

My hp muses seems to have taken a very long naps, so I'm honestly hoping that new canon will wake them up! I'm missing writing my otp, but somethings stuck in my brain right now. :P

As for whether I'll use the new canon in what I will hopefully write... well, that would depend on what she actually does to my favorite potions master and his wolf. ;)

Hmmm, your poll options don't really fit for me, so let me try and answer them like this:

1. After DH, I expect to be reading more fanfic that I have in a while because it's going to be interesting to see what people do with the new canon.

2. n/a

3. I really can't answer this yet - it depends on how I'm going to like what happens in DH. The more I like it, the more I'll want to see it incorporated in the fic I read. If I like parts but dislike others, I'll want the parts I like incorporated, and good fix-it fic for the parts I don't like. :-)

All in all I'm really looking forward DH, even if I'm slightly apprehensive about Snape's fate.

One thing I've always found interesting and a bit strange about HP fandom is that once new canon is out, it's very rare to start a story set in one of the older books and project from there. Even with flashbacks, new canon is automatically incorporated and most people are very apologetic when they choose not to include a particular canon event.

The Buffy/Angel fandom is quite different, and maybe it's because the series has been over for so many years, or because there were a lot of different writers (or something else that I've completely missed). In a story summary, you'll frequently see things like "set in season 2 and goes from there". It's much more freeing in a way.

Personally, I hope the Snape situation becomes resolved, either one way or another. From a reader's perspective, I'd rather he was ambiguous than evil, but the past two years my snupin stories have sucked because I couldn't reconcile the possibility that he might actually be evil. My justifications have been lame, and if that storyline gets ignored, I'm going to be quite upset. Either way, I'm expecting to be upset which means I probably won't be able to write any HP fanfic for a while.

I'm probably going to be less active writing/reading HP fanfic after DH, but that was a process that had started before DH and has more to do with personal circumstances than whatever JKR does(n't) do to Snape and Lupin. Snupin-wise, I still owe a Fantasy Fest drawing to one person and one last WIP either to finish or officially abandon, but beyond that, I don't see myself doing much other than gifties for people's birthdays (and even there, at least three of the pieces I'll be writing later this year are non-HP stories for folks I originally met via Snupin, although I might do what I did for "Unspeakable Beauty" and sneak Lupin into them anyway *g*).

That said, there is the fact that I've written mostly canon-compliant post-War romances up to now, and I've never thought the odds were good for both our boys making it through, so who knows how much of that has been shading my involvement. I've also thought about shifting to drawing, since then I can really ignore DH if it doesn't devolve satisfactorily (but it doesn't come as anywhere near as naturally to me as writing, so probably not).

XD The best part about harry potter is that even in fandom it has the best excuse to write/draw whatever you want.

"ITS MAGIC!" Snape dies? Of course he can come back WITH MAGIC!! *throws confetti*

I plan to use as much canon as I can, but, you know, if my fears are realised and Lupin marries Tonks (*BARF*) and Snape dies, I'll be ignoring those. Or perhaps writing fics where Tonks married him to give him better citizenship status and is actually a lesbian, and Severus faked his death to keep from going to Azkaban. *grin* In any case, my OTP will survive, regardless of canon.

Go you!!! And I will be here to squee over all the wonderful ficcage you write to explain anything not Snupin :D
I might actually do more writing now that the series is complete - I dont know why but I think that will make everything easier than not knowing one way or another.
SNUPIN FOREVA!!!!

Well, you know, I personally can't get too freaked out about "OMG closed canon" because I started writing Dark is Rising and Chronicles of Amber and Narnia fanfics after the canon was already closed. In two of those cases, closed 20 or more years before I even read the books. *grin* My biggest fear is that my favourite characters will die or be married off, and hey, as someone else pointed out the other day, this is a MAGIC world! Everything can be fobbed off because of magic! LOL

SNUPIN FOREVA!!!!

The death thing is what scares me the most - but we all know that both Severus and Remus have more than their fair share of excuses/opportunities to fake their deaths, so thats the end of that boggart :D
I've read a lot of people fearing that fandom will end, but I always make it a point to mention that the LOTR slash is still plentiful - despite deaths, endings and canon *nods*
But this fandom is that much better because of the magic - only three more days!!!!

Here from the Snitch.

I'm mostly a meta, criticism, commentary sort of person - so I'll want to hang around for a while after Deathly Hallows just to find out what people make of the HP series now it's complete.

Just like now, I'll have fic that uses canon like it's the gospel and I'll have fic that is canon-free. *shrugs* I just write what I want to write and I'll prolly just keep doing that.

Let me just add that I'm hoping the new book will inspire me to write a sequel to "Becoming Neville."

As for Snupin, even if they both die in the book, I don't think it will stop the fanfic, because it will be easy enough to just revise that last little bit where they die. I think it's harder with character who die earlier in the series and the canon continues without them. (Cedric, Sirius, and to a lesser extent, Dumbledore.)

I will probably start writing HP again. I quit--the majority of my HP fic came in that long, long gap between GoF and OotP, and I am really a closed-canon kind of writer anyway.

[1A] I hope I'll read more fan fiction, but reading more fan fiction really depends upon how much other people write.
[1B] I hope I'll write more fan fiction, but I'm starting to get disheartened. I'm not sure I'm going to be entirely happy with whatever I find in DH. I was extremely disappointed with HBP.

[2&3] I guess it depends on the content. There are some things that I'm suspecting which I absolutely hate the idea of. I always end up trying to loosely stick to canon if I can, but end up bending or tearing it at the seam where/when I need to. At times I really wish I didn't have that mind set. On the other hand, if it ends up like I'm thinking it will, I might just end up breaking that habit. So once again, it really depends. Also, canon will change my writing habits a bit more than my reading habits. I read whatever I want, provided the concept or premise is interesting or appealing.

Sorry, what´s canon ? Boring stories about Snape and Lily ?
I will continue SS/LM or SS/RM. And Snape is still alive!!!
